DJIRRA (Previously "Aboriginal Family Violence Prevention and Legal Service Victoria ")

After 15 years working with and supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples experiencing family violence, we have taken an exciting path in our journey – We are now Djirra! As Djirra, our existing work will continue, including frontline legal and non-legal services, early intervention and prevention programs, community education and policy and advocacy. Addressing family violence will remain the core focus of the work we do. We will continue our commitment to support victims and survivors. We are expanding our services to broaden our positive and holistic approach to Aboriginal women’s well-being, safety and cultural identity. Our objectives are: To provide assistance to victims of family violence; To reduce the incidence of violence and abuse in communities through education and advocacy; To increase the recognition of the problem of violence and abuse in communities through community education and advocacy; To facilitate long term solutions to violence and abuse in communities. Office is in Abbotsford, covering the Melbourne area. We have an office and staff in Mildura, in Warrnambool, covering the Barwon South West Region and in Bairnsdale covering the Gippsland region
